Grid Talk: Keys to Monitoring Grid Assets

To develop an effective grid asset monitoring solution, you really need a few things. One is you've got to be measuring the right data on the asset. The data that is meaningful, the data that really denotes, the true asset condition. Second is it's got to be in real-time. It's got to have context in a time manner that allows utilities to do something about the data. The third thing is it's got to be a solution that can be easily and safely retrofit onto the asset itself. And fourth, you've got to have a solution that has a low cost of O&M expense, especially on the communication network side.
